A Little Here, a Little There

Just a few randoms of the things Grant loves to do in his day to day grind...

Grant is now tall enough that he is getting into the third drawers all over the house. Daily we find him reaching into these drawers with the wonder and awe of what he will pull out...keeps him quite busy.

He also LOVES to push around his cars, trucks, and tractors. But he seems to always have to have one in each hand. He is constantly going all around the kitchen, dining room, and hall with his vehicles.

For months now Grant has been crossing his feet/legs whenever he sits. It is really the cutest thing and so the other day I decided I needed to capture a pic of those cute toes.

Bathtime has become quite the event at our home. Grant can hardly wait to get in (and makes a pretty good attempt to swing his leg over the side) as he is standing impatiently as we get the tub and all his toys ready. He loves his letters that stick to the walls and trying to repeat us as we say what they are. He also thinks splashing is the funniest thing ever.

These last pics are of Grant having a ball playing in his crib. He thought this was just the most fun and does this before many of his naps (today I just decided to keep the door open and catch what he was up to). He jabbered up a storm, wrestled with his blankets, shook his crib multiple times, and of course pulled his little toy's string (whom we've named Gil) to listen to the music...over and over.

He is quite the little ham! :)

A Couple of Great Grant Videos!

The other night we sat down with Grant and out of the blue he started dancing when his music started playing. This is the first time we had seen this "dance" of his and thought it was hilarious. Not sure where he learned this but looks like he's following in his parent's footsteps for great rhythm.

These giggles were just too delightful to not share. :) And if you catch the end, Grant obviously is not standing on his own just yet...geez Dad! Good thing Grant's a good sport!

Once again you have to turn your head because I can't figure out how to switch this...or remember to not hold the camera that way. Sorry :)

What a Day!

Well on Saturday January 23rd we celebrated the first year of Grant...and what a celebration it was! His day started with waffles with his Auntie Shay and never slowed down till he hit the pillow that night. Nick and I never would of imagined so many family members would make the trip down to KC, but wow did their presence truly make the day!
We rented out a room at our Community Center to eat some lunch and cake and then we were off to the pool. It was great to watch Grant as all the guests arrived. He would see his cousins or grandparents or friends and become so excited. He usually is quite enthusiastic to see these people but only sees 1 or 2 of these people at a time. So to keep seeing more and more faces that he recognized come through the door was quite the site.
Saying that Grant loved his cake would be an understatement. He was trying to get a swipe at it all morning, so when his chance finally came, he dug right in. He was quite the chocolaty mess! (good thing Aunt Katie suggested taking off his shirt) He ate a good amount of his cake and probably would of ate more but quickly became distracted when he saw the tractor he got for his birthday.
We spent the afternoon going down the slides, floating around the lazy river, and playing in the fountains. I don't think a smile ever left Grant's face. :) After a little nap (from I think everyone) the festivities continued at the Embassy Suites, since our families conveniently booked all their rooms at the same hotel. We all hung out and the kids played and played, ate way too much sugar, and stayed up way past Grant's bedtime.
As I was lying Grant down for the night I couldn't help but think, what a great day. I don't think we could of imagined a better first birthday...and if Grant could say more than Mama and Dada, I know he would of definitely agreed!
Soon I will be posting more pictures (as I had others take pictures for us and still need to download them).

A White Christmas in Nebraska

Nebraska was hit with storms over the holidays that left a lot of people unable to reach their Christmas destinations (including some of our family). But fortunately for Nick, Grant, and I we were able to leave a little earlier than planned and get back to Kearney before these storms arrived. We were glad we did as it was fun to see family and get Grant some time with his cousins.
Speaking of cousins, I thought this picture was just too adorable to not be shared. This is Grant's cousins-Max and Ted Twit-they thought some of Grandpa Mark's animals needed some Christmas decor. I would say they did a pretty good job! After many days of being stuck inside due to the weather (which was actually very relaxing, so I'm not complaining). It was really nice to meet up with some of my family at the Holiday Inn water park and exert some energy. Grant is really starting to be a little fish. He had so much fun playing in the water, watching his cousins, uncle, and even his Grandma Mimi go down the waterslides, and of course drinking the water. I know that is so gross but he seems to love to duck his head under the water (which we praised him for) but then realized he was doing it more in part to get a nice big drink. :)

Hope you all had a wonderful and safe holiday and are looking forward to all that 2010 has in store...I know we are!

Holiday Fun

The days of December flew by but prior to Christmas we still were able to get out and do a few fun things around KC. We made our first visit to Crown Center. Our plan was to take Grant to see Santa but after seeing a line that followed through the halls we decided to skip that. Next year maybe we'll try a weekday. We did see Crown Center's train display and then were able to spend some time at Union Station and see their unbelievable train set up. We walked all around the huge display and Grant really liked it...I think his dad did too!Our family celebrated Christmas a little bit early so we could make it back to Kearney before the big storms hit. We had our annual crab leg dinner, which was once again amazing (good job Nick). Then had a lot of fun watching Grant experience his first Christmas celebration. He was good for a few of tears on the paper of his presents and then became more interested in eating the paper. But with a little help from Mom and Dad he was able to get through the rest of the wrapping and discover some fun gifts. In this picture Grant was excited about his new garage and caught on quickly how to run the cars down the ramp...and since has decided he loves to run anything that he can down the ramp (puzzle pieces, his little people, whatever he can find :)
It was pretty obvious that Grant loved his gifts and had a wonderful first Christmas!

November...How Time Flies...

It's been awhile since we've posted and much has gone on! Back in the first part of November Nick had his annual deer hunt with his dad and brother, so Grant and I decided to have our own fun in Omaha. We started our weekend at CoCo Key's with the Howards. Grant was not sure what to think of the waterpark but quickly found out he liked it. Hayden and Grant were busy crawling everywhere and watching everything. This is also where Grant figured out he is a big fan of slides. We went down them multiple times to his delight. This picture is of Hayden giving Grant a hug...Hayden is such a good little hugger!

Grant also had fun seeing lots of family. It was a beautiful weekend and we all had a wonderful time getting outside for a bit and playing on Mausbach's swing set. Here is another slide that Grant had a blast on! I think we have some pretty good ideas of what he might like for Christmas or his birthday!

Now that Grant is mobile he is quite content to roam all through the house and play with everything. One of his favorite stops is at the back sliding door...this stop usually consists of knocking or banging on the window, talking some jibberish, and sometimes just staring out (there's usually a squirrel or two out and about, which he finds entertaining).
Our Thanksgiving was spent at Doug and Brandi's and we had such a relaxing long weekend. I believe Grant's favorite part of the weekend was Koda-Doug and Brandi's dog. They quickly became friends after Grant's first meal. (Nick and I loved not having to clean up the floor after every meal). Grant got a big kick out of feeding Koda, following Koda around the house, and getting Koda kisses. He also enjoyed spending some quality time with family. He really took an interest to his cousin Gus too, which was cute to see!
